Film Club wins competition!

Congratulations to members of our Film Club who have won the Hertfordshire Short Film competition.

Children from Potten End First  School have won First Prize in the 2014 Hertfordshire School Film Challenge. The theme for the challenge this year was ‘Road Safety’ and their film ‘The Wrong Way to cross the Road’ obviously impressed the judges!

Their 3 minute film features a boy who wants to walk to school to get his ‘Walk to School’ Badge but his mum won’t let him as she thinks it is too dangerous.  He then dreams about the wrong way and then the right way to cross the road which involves some secret Superpolicemen.  In the end his mum lets him walk to school with his friends but follows him to make sure he is safe.  Finally, we see the boy awarded his walk to school badge.

The children were invited to see their shortlisted film on the big screen at Hertford Theatre at the annual School Travel Awards held by the County Council last Tuesday (25th March 2014). One of the children said ‘ we were very excited to be shortlisted but we really didn’t think we would win but we are really glad we did’. Claire Wallis, the Film Making Club Leader, said she was astounded because the quality of all the films shortlisted was very high.  She added that she was so happy for the children as they had worked very hard on the film  – but with lots of fun!  They are real stars!

The children received a glass trophy for the school  and a visit each to the World of Harry Potter in Leavesden.  They all said they ‘can’t wait!’

Here we can see Mrs Wallis and the children with their award.
